Just back from a fantastic two-week stay at La Loma.
We arrived with clenched jaws, pale limbs and too much luggage and left refreshed, invigorated and ready for a return trip (two in fact - a couple of weeks over the New Year and a month in June).
We're not silly. When you find a big lump of heaven hidden in the Spanish hills you don't wait for an invite to come back - we booked quickly and settled back to enjoy the October sun in this magnificent part of the country.
Relaxing here comes easy - the spectacular views are even better than in the photos, the nearby villages are beautifully unspoiled, the beds are the right marshmallow consistency and our cupboards were bursting with quality supplies kindly provided in advance by Gaynor and Martyn, who thoughtfully arranged a pre-arrival shop together with a stash of logs for our wood-burning stove - just in case we needed them.
Think oodles of olive oil from their own olive trees, spicy chorizo sausage, cheese, olives the size of golfballs, speciality cakes from the region (check out the cake factory in Rute) and a bottle or five of red wine to wash down and ease off any stress that comes from living with U.K. drizzle.
Service doesn't get much better than this, especially when you consider that this is a self-catering holiday. This sort of attention to detail puts them right up there with what you might expect from a five star property but without breaking the bank.
At this point you probably think we're related. We're not. We even have a complaint. They won't let us move in?
As you see, we don't want anyone else to book or stay at La Loma because this delicious secret hideout should remain a secret - so PLEASE don't tell anyone else.
Anna and Rob

Gaynor and Martin, the owners, have only been in business from scratch for two years, but they obviously have a gift for looking after holiday properties and their guests.
From the moment you arrive you feel welcome and relaxed, the goodies in the fridge are most welcome too.
The whole atmosphere of the place, the stunning views, the well appointed holiday property, make it a place we will certainly return to.
We enjoyed our brief stay, but shall be back next year, and recommend anyone checking for a place to stay to be 100% certain that they will not be disappointed at La Loma.

We stayed in August and September 2008. The place is so peaceful and extremely relaxing. Only left the pool for one day to go to Cordobo, however this was as planned. If you want to wind down with the wonderful hosts that Martin & Gaynor were then this is the place for you. It is off the beaten track but for the individuals who do their homework this will suit you, it did us! BBQs, local wine and beer most nights. It really does not get much better than this.

What a fabulous place to stay.La Loma is set in the most fantastic location, olive groves and stunning views over Iznajar lake. Our accomodation was perfect and well equipped for a winter break. Our trip to Iznajar was to gather as much info on the area with a view to living there permanently. We found the perfect place but La Loma was not for sale! !
Martin and Gaynor are the perfect hosts and we were made very welcome. If La Loma is fab in the middle of winter then summer must be fabulous and fantastic.

We had a fantastic holiday at Cortijo La Loma. The experience was first class from the minute we enquired until we returned home. We couldn't find anything to fault.
Gaynor and Martin are fantastic hosts and nothing is too much trouble for them. They are always there if you need them, but exceptionally discrete and you sometimes forget that they actually live on site in their own detached cottage.
Casita La Loma is beautifuly equiped to a very high standard and has amazing views over Lake Iznajar, Rute, Iznajar and over the the Sierra Nevada. We visited Cordoba, Granada and Malaga whcih are all an easy hours drive from the cortijo. Go to Cortijo La Loma - you will not be disappointed. We have already booked to return next year!!!

Just returned from what has to be the most breathtaking holiday home ever! The view greets you as you get out of the car, takes your breath away and whilst you recover Gaynor and Martin, the most wonderful hosts in our experience greet you. It gets better! You realise your apartment faces "that" view with your own private terrace looking over mountains, lake and acres of olive trees. Breakfast on that terrace is a joy with the pool just to one side with another spectacular view over the mountains.
Inside you have all you could possibly want for summer use plus a woodburning stove to cosy up infront of on those colder winter evenings with the biggest box of DVD films I have ever seen.
If you can tear yourself away from the view, the walking and the wildlife are spectacular, and nearby you have history at Iznahar, good food in countless small restaurants (never ever order a starter unless you have the appetite of a bear!) and Granada and Cordoba a short drive away for history and culture.
We simply couldn't fault it, but hope no-one reading this books it because we want to go back ourselves so stay away please.

This was a perfect place to relax and get away from it all. The welcome by Gaynor and Martin was second to none, The location is wonderful, the views are stunning. The information on surrounding areas and places to go was plentiful. The accommodation was spotless, very tastefully done. Well equiped kitchen, beautiful bathroom. nothing has been left to chance at La Loma. The upkeep of the property is prestine. Martin and Gaynor, even though live on site, they are far from intrusive but there if you need them. We needed to unwind which is just what we did, the only thing wrong was we were only there for a weekend. They have got the balance just right. As soon as you park up and feel the warmth in the welcome you know this place is very special.

We have just returned from the most wonderful week at La Loma. From the moment we arrived and the spectacular views of the mountains and lake took our breath away to the moment that we left relaxed and tanned the week was perfect. Gaynor and Martin are the perfect hosts, from appearing with a welcome pot of tea and slices of cake upon our arrival to the welcome pack of goodies in the kitchen to bringing us an ice lolly by the pool one particularly hot afternoon. Saying this you could easily forget that they are there as they strike just the right balance between attention to detail and discretion.
The casita was well appointed and spotlessly clean and the views from the terrace were absolutely stunning. There was plentiful information about the area and places of interest and the casita was ideally positioned for visiting traditional villages, mountain towns and we spent a wonderful day at the Alhambra in Granada which was only an hours drive away and with excellent directions supplied by Martin. We also spent several days straying no further than the pool as the weather was wonderful and it was just so relaxing basking in the sun taking in the views.
All in all La Loma itself was wonderful and struck the perfect balance between rest and relaxation and seeing a bit of the real Spain, we can't wait to return next year.
