La Ceramista 2
Stylish, bright and spacious village house, with two terraces and great views
Ceramicist Sue Binns and her architect husband Henry have created a pair of delightful houses in the heart of Gaucin, arguably the loveliest of all the white villages. The houses are side by side in a quiet pedestrian alley and are ideal for use separately, or together for an extended family or group, up to six people. La Ceramista 1 sleeps 2 and La Ceramista 2 sleeps 4. Both are comfortable and well appointed.
Ceramista 2 is entered from the street through its own private courtyard, which has a suntrap lounger as well as a shower to cool off in and a covered area to provide shade from the highest of the summer sun. The ground floor has a generous kitchen and dining area with plenty of space to cook, eat and relax. It is full of light from the big patio doors which open out into the courtyard. On this floor there is one comfortable double bedroom, with its own bathroom and walk in shower.
Upstairs there is a large, bright and airy living room with great views of the village and countryside beyond. Outside at this level there is a sunny terrace with lots of lounging space and the opportunity to have breakfast with the same wonderful views. The second double bedroom is also on this floor, together with its own bathroom.
The house was completed at the beginning of 2012 and is well appointed, as we like it for ourselves, with good quality beds and linen, good pots and pans, a dishwasher and the essential brilliant Braun juicer. There are modern wood burning stoves in both the main rooms to keep the house cosy in the winter, as well as electric heaters in the bedrooms and bathrooms. There are comfy cushions for the loungers outside and tables and chairs for the courtyard and terrace. We have tried to make the layout of the house simple and practical and the atmosphere bright and airy, at the same time as keeping the charm of the original. In this way it is easy to use, nice to be in and a great base for a great holiday.
