Alhaurín el Grande is a typical whitewashed Spanish market town, consisting of the old quarter and the more modern new town, with many interesting shops and a weekly market.
There are many restaurants, pavement cafes and tapas bars offering excellent cuisine at very reasonable prices, not to mention the spanish measures of drinks!!! Alhaurin el Grande makes a perfect base for exploring the beauty of the andalucian mountain range or sampling the many coastal resorts of Costa del Sol, with miles of golden beaches, water sports, theme parks/zoos casinos and international shopping. Nearby resorts are Fuengirola, Torremolinos, Marbella and Puerto Banus. From Gibraltar ferries leave on the hour for Morrocco or take a boat trip through the med and wonder at the dolphins.
Inland within the stunning mountains lie pretty whitewashed villages, the well reknown Mijas being only 12 kms away. The turquoise lakes at El Chorro are a must. For those who like culture you have the cities of Malaga, Granada and Seville.
Locally are many excellent golf courses and horse riding facilities.
Temperatures seldom fall below 15c during Dec to March and the summer breezes in the valley keep the oppressive humidity of the coast at bay.
