Comfortable house in Penne, Abruzzo
Our house in the "centro storico" (historic centre) of the lovely hill town of Penne in beautiful Abruzzo, has a lounge/diner, and quite unusually for an Italian town house, a separate kitchen. It sleeps 4 comfortably, and there is a sofa bed for an additional 2 people in the lounge. In the main bedroom, there is a large double bed, and in the second bedroom, bunk beds which can be turned in two singles or a double - just let us know your preference and it will be set up for your arrival.
Penne is a peaceful, mainly brick built, medieval town surrounded by 15th century walls. It has all facilities either in the town or nearby. The house is just a short stroll from the centre of the town with its shops, supermarkets, bars, restaurants and banks, but as well as having everything you need, there is a calm, relaxed feel about it. This changes on Saturdays when the town is taken over by a bustling market. Just outside of the town are more supermarkets ( including Lidl) and a leisure centre with swimming pool. Only a couple of hundred metres from the house is the Duomo (Cathedral) with its museums.
Abruzzo is a beautiful area with approximately 3500 square kilometres of National Park. There are 2 mountain ranges, the Maiella and Gran Sasso and roughly 130 kms of coastline. It is said that it is possible to spend the morning in one of the 17 the ski resorts and the afternoon at the beach!!
Just outside the town is Lake Penne, with it's nature reserve, nature trail, wildlife, picnic areas and walks. It is possible to book in the town either half day or full day walks taking in the natural beauties of the area.
PLEASE NOTE - there is no parking by the house, but there is a free car park less than 5 minutes walk away. As the house is on quite a steep hill, it is not really suitable for the elderly or those with mobility problems.
If you like something more lively, the coastal city of Pescara has a wide range of shops of all sizes, (including department stores), nightlife and a busy fishing port. Rome is only a two and a half hour drive away, so is easily accessible for a day out.
