Cabanas is a small fishing village situated 5 kilometres from the larger town of Tavira. Central to the village is an amazing natural lagoon where you can take a short boat crossing to one of the most beautiful beaches in the Algarve, where the golden sands seem to go on forever. Cabanas village offers an excellent choice of eating out; from some great restaurants serving fantastic local dishes, to the Portuguese bars and cafes, many of which run along the pretty promenade and have beautiful lagoon and sea views. In the evenings, you can enjoy the Portuguese calendar of social events; carnivals, festivals and arts and crafts. Cabanas is situated in the Ria Formosa, a protected nature reserve and it is a great location for cycling, fishing, swimming, walking and bird watching. East of the village, towards the Spanish border, lie the popular resorts Manta Rota and Monte Gordo. Both offer plenty to see and do and have excellent beaches.
