ST. VLAS RESORT
Location

St.Vlas village has about 3,000 inhabitants and is situated just 5 km to the North East of Sunny Beach resort and 7 km away from the town of Nessebar, a World Heritage site. St.Vlas lies in the shadow of the Stara Planina mountain (also called the Balkan mountain) and thus offers a beautiful combination of sea and mountain climate, considered favourable for those suffering from respiratory problems. The golden sandy beaches measure a total length of about 1km with an average width of 16 metres.

History

The village of St. Vlas (Sveti Vlas) is believed to have been founded by the Thracian tribe of Larisi, in the 2nd century BC. At that time, it reportedly bore the name of Larisa. It was renamed 'Sveti Vlas' in the 14th century AD, after the Patron Saint of cattle growers and merchants. During Ottoman rule (late 14th-19th century AD), the village appeared in administrative registers as 'Manastir' (Monastery) or 'Kyuchuk Manastir' after the five monasteries in the vicinity of the village. Unfortunately, none of the monasteries have been preserved. Officially, it restored it's name to Sveti Vlas, after the reunification of the Bulgarian state in 1886.

Eating Out

The fast expansion of the village into a modern elite resort, has spurned the emergence of numerous pubs and restaurants. The Brasilia Restaurant Bar, in the centre of St.Vlas, affords spectacular sunset views of The Bay, as does the Central next door. From their roof top restaurants you overlook the mingling crowds in the square below and Brasilia has a lively night club to eclipse your romantic evening. The Manastira is another top Restaurant.

Transportation

There's regular bus transport from St. Vlas (Bus stop near The DIY store) to Sunny Beach, Change here for Nessebar, Ravda, Pomorie and Bourgas from Sunny Beach bus terminus, and plenty of private minibuses, Route and ordinary taxis. Besides, there is also water transport across The Bay to Nessebar, Bourgas and Sunny Beach, which is just 5 kms away from St. Vlas.
